The Marzipan Advent Calendar has become a popular and sought after gift for many of our marzipan-loving customers. Behind the busy scene showing Santa Claus and his elves doing their final pre-Christmas preparations are concealed 24 mini loaves of top quality marzipan, enrobed in fine dark chocolate.
But what makes this marzipan different? Well, for a start it is note the same as the marzipan we traditionally put on our Christmas cakes here in Britain. Made by our friends at Niederegger in Lubec in the north of Germany, it contains a much higher proportion of carefully selected Mediterranean almonds, and far less sugar than most UK marzipans. Indeed 40% of the marzipan comprises of almonds (that’s compared to around 25% in most British marzipans), creating a lighter, fluffier, more delicate flavour of marzipan. Combined with the fine, rich, dark chocolate enrobed shell, and you can see why Niederreger have been successfully been producing high quality marzipans for over 220 years!
